Its a little rough around the edges but its good. My team is having fun getting some of the ideas fleshed out. ill be honest admitting that the class is being a bit harder than i thought it would. but we have a good idea and im really looking foward to where it goes!

HW3 Unreal First Steps
Hello, back with the first real assignment from Game Design. It was really confusing but thankfully not super hard.
This first image is just the over all scene that i created in unreal engine using the basic tutorial (which isn't very easy to follow as half the images it is trying to show you are just links and urls for images).
The first main object i created was this brazier. It has a top component, base component, and fires and lighting affects added to it. in the background you can also see a tree i made. It all sounds pretty small and basic but it actually involves a lot of steps.
I had to go though and add components to objects i brought into the main area, then edit the components in order to make them the shape i wanted. For some reason the whole system wasn't set to height 0 so trying to actually get the objects to sit on the ground beneath them was a bit annoying. then adding the fire particle affect was kind of weird. Fortunately the particles have a separate and slightly easier to understand tutorial.

First Team Meating
The first meeting my team had was on Wednesday, the 14th of september. The meeting went pretty well I would like to think, though it was very subdued and quiet. Everyone is still getting to know each other and trying to figure out what we actually need to do in the class. There is just a lot going on all at once.
So far we have a general idea of what everyone is good at and what they each want from the game. I want a good story and something that makes me feel small. Most of us are okay with something dark as the theme, not exactly horror, but at least unsettling. Zack and I both would enjoy RPG elements but are unsure about the extent that we could do somthing like that in the time frame. Kimber would prefer some puzzle solving over just a shooter and Killia had the most reasonable and creative ideas prefering horror and survival elements
After the meeting was over, the group had a collective of 5 game ideas that we plan on editing and working into bigger things than just concepts by next week. and then choose a game. Until then its going to be a bit slow but I am hopeful.

http://www.spore.com/
Spore is an open world, creation and evolution game.
It involves taking a creature and growing and evolving it,
changing its size, shape, color, body parts, and even behiviors all the way from
a bacteria to a civilized creature. At which point you creat civiliations and ways of life and evenyutall go into space and expolre the galaxy. It is a game that i enjoy becouse the sheer amout of creativity and freedom in it. YOu cna do whatever you want however you want.
and just make really cool creatures.
http://www.elderscrolls.com/skyrim/
Skyrim is a pretty intresting game with good and bad parts. I enjoy that you can do anything you want, explore an entire landmass and all of its caves, ruins, and secret places.
You can interact with people and do all sorts of amazing things and have a lot of fun. there is always somthing to do.
The only issues really are that nothing you do matters.
You can save the world, defeat a demonic lord, slay a dragon, and kill an emperor.
but that has absolutly no affect on the world as a whole. No more than killing a few bandits in the woods does.

Since i already went over the limit on the other 2 blog posts i figured i would continue.
This third game is in either alpha or pre alpha curently. But it is absolutly increadable.
This game gives you an entire planet that is as far as you can tell devoid of dry land.
Your space ship crashed and you are the only surivivor and now you have to
explore and enteract with an entire alien ecosystem to surivive.
The game is simply beautiful, and in all honesty terrifying.
you can build bases, farm, get pets, breed, dive, and do all sorts of things in this immense world.
HW1 images
This first image, is me. Or at least The image of me that an artist friend of mine made for me.
I fell it gives a pretty good idea of who i am and what i like.
Magic, knowledge, imagionation, books, animals (specifically wolves and cats),
and of course my personal favorite, Dragons.
This image is a much more specific one. It shows a scens from one of my favorite books,
The Dresden files. By Jim Butcher.
I have read a lot, unfortunatly not a lot recently, but these are fun books.
Imagine a crime novel, the main character is a privite investagator,
the twist is he is a wizard, that magic is real, and that he specializes in the things that
everyone else runs away from or denies exists.
This one i like becouse not enough games do things on this scale.
That is a litterally walking mountain. a volcano with crab legs.
and it is up and walking toward 2 guys on horses. its increadable
You will probebly start seeing a theme here, i like to be made to feel small.
Like really small.
I like games and worlds that make me feel like im am doing somthing impossiable.
seeing something impossible.
Its like you have to be fighting them either. just to have things that just exist in the world.
somthing that may fly by every now and then. walk by. swim by.
what is the point of makeing a world that doesnt make you have to just stop and look at it once a while
You can tell a story with just a picture. or in this case 2.
It is a compelling and wonderful story that these to pictures show,
and they make you want to know the rest of the story.
This one i just couldnt resist putting in. It is so pretty and broken.
SO many bright colors but the pictures feels so sad.
Finally, this is important.
There is a difference between a dragon, a drake, a wyvern, and a worm.
All 4 are just sub classes of dragons but this is somthing that people dont seem to understand,
and as a dragon nut it bothers me somtimes.
so i thought i would give a chart that just shows what the different is.
Note, I do not own any of these images except the top one. almost all were taken from deviant art, facebook, or just google images.

HW1 Video
I may have gone a little bit over board on this, as i was still figuring out how to make the videos and do things. So the video i made is broken up into 5 parts, and is much longer than needed.
In the 5 videos i go though and introduce a game i like to play called FTL. A game that can be described as a top down, strategy management game. In space. The game manages to always be fun by being filed with random encounters that are never really unfair, but are very difficult. Every single risky and random part of the game has a way to get past the random chance. The combat is easy to understand, but complex enough that it never really gets boring. The video goes though a lot of the different things, but honestly the game has so much to it that it would be impossiable to cover everything in a video as short as the one i have made.
